At Calvary Murrieta Christian Junior High (CMCS), our goal is to provide a Christ-centered education that prepares students academically, spiritually, and socially for the challenges of high school and beyond.
Students receive instruction in core subjects — Bible, English, Math, Science, and History — while also having the opportunity to explore elective classes such as art, technology, PE, music, photography, and ASB.
Every part of our program is rooted in a God-centered view of life, where Scripture is the standard for truth. Our qualified Christian faculty partner with families to provide academic instruction consistent with Christ-centered teaching at home and church.
Beyond academics, students enjoy memorable experiences like camp, pep rallies, and spiritual emphasis days, designed to build community, deepen faith, and create lasting memories.
Our mission is to educate, equip, and disciple students for a lifelong commitment to loving and serving Christ, while preparing them for success in high school and beyond.
Bible (7th & 8th Grade)
Bible class is integral to the junior high experience at CMCS. Students study the Old Testament, learning the overarching story of Creation, Fall, and Redemption, and how it points to Christ and His plan of salvation. Through daily study, group discussions, and service projects, students learn not just what Scripture says, but how to apply it to their lives.
Curriculum: The Story of the Old Testament – BJU
English
Junior High English equips students to master writing, grammar, and literary analysis while developing an appreciation for literature. Seventh grade focuses on global texts, while eighth grade emphasizes American authors. Students explore creative writing, poetry, essays, and oral presentations while learning MLA formatting and research skills.
Curriculum: BJU Grammar & Writing, Literature & Vocabulary, plus three novels per grade level
Life Science (7th) and Physical Science (8th)
Junior High Science encourages students to explore God’s creation with a Biblical worldview. In 7th grade, students take Life Science, studying plants, animals, and human beings through lectures, labs, and hands-on activities. Lab work, both in and outside the classroom, helps students see evidence of God’s design in the natural world. In 8th grade, students take Physical Science, where they explore foundational principles of chemistry and physics through hands-on experiments, critical thinking, and a biblical worldview. They gain a deeper understanding of matter, energy, motion, and the laws that govern the natural world, preparing them for higher-level science courses.
Curriculum: Life Science – BJU, Physical Science – BJU
Math
Our math program challenges students at their skill level and provides multiple pathways for growth, including Math 7, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra 1. Through rigorous coursework, students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills while recognizing the order and consistency of God’s design in mathematics.
Curriculum: BJU Math 7, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra 1
World History
History at CMCS teaches students to think critically about the past while grounding their understanding in Biblical truth. Seventh grade covers World Studies, while eighth grade focuses on American Republic. Lessons include hands-on simulations, role playing, and engaging projects that make history meaningful and memorable.
Curriculum: World Studies (7th), American Republic (8th) – BJU
