Academics by Grade

Transitional Kindergarten (TK)

Transitional Kindergarten bridges the gap between preschool and elementary, offering five full days of instruction, enrichment classes, and chapel participation. Our caring teachers combine play, social growth, and academics to prepare students for success in K–8. With biblical integration woven throughout, TK is a strong foundation for lifelong

Kindergarten

Our full-day program introduces reading, phonics, early math, and Bible lessons in a fun, structured environment. Students also participate in art, music, PE, library, and technology. With small class sizes and dedicated aides, we ensure each kindergartener is prepared for first grade success.

1st Grade

First graders grow into confident, independent readers and writers. They expand math skills with addition, subtraction, and geometry, while also exploring science and history. Field trips to Peltzer Farms and Birch Aquarium bring lessons to life.

2nd Grade

Second graders dive deeper into history and science, learning about pilgrims, the Revolutionary War, animals, and habitats. Math skills expand into double and triple-digit operations and early multiplication. Field trips include Riley’s Farm and the San Diego Safari Park.

3rd Grade

Third grade builds responsibility and independence. Students master multiplication facts, study the solar system and Civil War, and expand vocabulary and writing. Field trips include Jurupa Mountain Discovery Center and the Discovery Cube.

4th Grade

Fourth grade focuses on California history, from Native Americans and the missions to the Gold Rush and state development. Students also learn advanced math concepts such as fractions, long division, and geometry. Field trips include Mission San Juan Capistrano and the Ocean Institute.

5th Grade

Fifth grade students stretch academically with American history, states and capitals, earth science, and operations with decimals and fractions. Bible lessons emphasize living a godly life, and students strengthen essay writing and research skills.

6th Grade

Sixth grade is a capstone year that prepares students for middle school and beyond. In math, students expand into integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, algebraic concepts, and coordinate graphing. Science studies include Earth and Space science such as oceans, rocks, extreme weather, and astronomy, as well as human body systems and healthy living.

English builds on grammar, sentence structure, and essay writing while incorporating novel studies for deeper literary analysis. History centers on ancient civilizations including Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Greece, always pointing to God’s sovereign plan in history. Bible lessons emphasize Christ-like character and conclude with a study of Revelation.

Outside the classroom, sixth graders embrace leadership and service, often organizing projects such as Operation Christmas Child. Their year concludes with an exciting three-day trip to Rawhide Ranch, blending learning, community, and fun as a memorable end to the elementary journey.

  • Science Center (bi-weekly)

    hands-on experiments and scientific exploration

In addition to enrichment classes, students participate in a wide range of events and programs that strengthen their learning, faith, and community:

Field Trips

Field trips are an important part of the CMCS experience. Each grade enjoys three field trips per year, carefully chosen to support classroom learning. Upper elementary students participate in overnight trips that connect directly to history and science studies, creating memorable, hands-on experiences.

Together, these opportunities help students discover and develop their God-given gifts while fostering joy, curiosity, and a sense of belonging.

Preparing Students for the Future

Through strong academics, Biblical integration, and a wide range of enrichment opportunities, CMCS Elementary equips students with the knowledge, character, and faith to excel in middle school, high school, and beyond.
